Pure in Heart was founded in the 1990’s, when a small group of young people responded to Our Lady’s invitation to prayer. ‘Purity amongst the youth’, a reoccurring prayer intention caught the attention of their spiritual director, Fr. Aidan Carroll. In the year 2000, while in Rome for World Youth Day, the group decided they would become proactive and reach out to young people!
After thinking and praying, two members of the group decided to take a year out from their studies to give school talks around the country. This was the beginning of Pure in Heart ‘mission team‘,a group of young people who propose the Church’s teaching on sexuality in an attractive way to their peers.
The four pillars of Pure in Heart are:
P is for Prayer – individually and in community,
U is for Unity – within the group and within the Church,
R is for Respect – for the leadership and each other person
E is for Evangelisation – sharing with others the truth, beauty and meaning of human sexuality.
All four pillars are essential for Pure in Heart and its members to continue to grow in faith, hope and love together.
The weekly prayer meeting continued, their sole intention now being the work of the mission team.
The Pure in Heart community meet every week to pray for the mission and enhance their faith… interested in coming along? Click here
In 2008, Pure in Heart set up their first international youth group in Boston, USA.
